Yoga with Karen Wiggins
Since childhood, dance, movement, and music have always been an integral part of Karen’s life in one form or another. She took her first Iyengar yoga class more than 20 years ago at her alma mater, UCSD. But it wasn’t until her pregnancy, and birth of her twins (now 12 years old), that yoga became an essential part of her existence.
Karen has maintained a consistent practice over the last 14 years, beginning with Ashtanga, and evolving to include more influences from Iyengar and Anusara traditions. In 2014, she completed the 100 Hour Intensive Training under the inspirational guidance of Josh Vincent and Lauren Duke. Becoming a yoga teacher, and having the opportunity to share all the benefits yoga has to offer, seemed to be the next natural step for her to take.
Throughout her life challenges, Karen has found that yoga is necessary for developing awareness of breath, maintaining balance, replenishing energy, and cultivating a “calm” in the center of all the storms that life brings. In her classes, she explores these discoveries with her students. She creates a welcoming, relaxed space, and interweaves bits of yogic and life philosophy, thereby making the practice more applicable to our daily lives off the mat.
In this workshop led by Alexandria Romero, we will explore the practice of meditation in an interactive and experiential way. The focus of the workshop will be on self-discovery through meditation itself, along with plenty of time for questions and clarification. Beginner or expert, you will walk away feeling reconnected to your inner calm.
Alexandria has studied Transpersonal Psychology, Counseling Psychology and is a professional Life Coach, Spiritual Guide, Teacher, and Writer. Alexandria will guide us through an hour and a half meditation workshop where we will:
- Cover the basics of meditation
- Learn the different types of meditation including affirmations, breathing techniques, and the benefit of journaling
- Discover the importance of meditation for healing and health
- Learn how to cultivate a different relationship with your thoughts and emotions
- Practice 3 of Alexandria's signature meditations, Grounding Meditation, Affirmations, and Gratitude and Blessings
- Discover how to establish a daily meditation practice at home

Wine Tasting and Tour
What a better way to learn about wine from a winemaker! Roll up your yoga mats and join Mike Embly for a walking vineyard tour where you will learn how grapes are grown and harvested. Followed by a winery and cellar tour where you will then learn how wine is made, aged, and bottled.

Hungry Hawk Vineyards and Winery
Up a winding mountain road, with views of the San Pasqual Valley at every turn, Hungry Hawk Vineyards and Winery offers a true escape from the San Diego city life. You forget you are less than 10 minutes off of the freeway! Hungry Hawk Vineyards and Winery is a boutique winery, and completely family owned and operated. With fifteen estate grown varieties, and 10 acres overlooking the beautiful San Pasqual Valley & San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Hungry Hawk Vineyards and Winery is truly one of San Diego's best attractions.
Originally an avocado orchard, the Embly family purchased the property back in 2002 and opened up the winery and tasting room in 2013 with their son Mike, winemaker of Hungry Hawk wines. It is apparent the Embly family is incredibly passionate about what they do. There is a true spirit and soul that inhabits this land, and Mike has captivated this in his wine. They specialize in Spanish, Bordeaux, and Rhone varietals, and emphasize sustainable farming and winery practices. White varietals include Albarino, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viogner, and Pinot Gris. Bordeaux varietals include Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. Grenache, Mouvedre, Petit Sirah, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, and the little known Syrah Noir round to out the list. Hungry Hawk Vineyards has already earned Silver Medals at the 2014 Florida State Fair and the 2014 San Diego County Fair. As well as the 2015 Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition silver medal award.
Hungry Hawk Vineyards and Winery offers truly an authentic wine tasting experience and one of San Diego's most unique and breathtaking views. Women, Wine & Yoga is honored and excited to be hosting Yoga in the Vineyard with the Embly family!
